Question about ASUS Maximus V and SSD/HDD

Hello Tom's Hardware folk.

I'm starting my first HTPC build this week and have a quick question that hopefully one of you can answer for me :D .

For starters here is my build:

Case: Silverstone Grandia GD06 HTPC Case
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K
PSU:
MB: Asus MAXIMUS V GENE Z77
RAM:
SSD: Corsair Force 3 Series 180GB
HD: 3 x Western Digital Red 3TB
BD: LG CH12LS28

ASUS's website for the Maximus V stats:

Intel® Z77 chipset : *4
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), red
2 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), black

ASMedia® PCIe SATA controller : *6
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), red

I was wanting to set the 3 x 3TB WD Red's up in RAID 5 and run the OS and Applications on the SSD.
How would I go abouts doing this if it is even possible..

1. Do all the WD's have to be on the same controller for RAID 5?
2. If yes to #1, will it matter that 2 will be SATAIII and 1 SATAII?
3. Is it possible to have the SSD set to AHCI while still having the WD Red's in RAID5?

Any other ideas/pointers/tips would rock as well.

Thanks, Pat.

    1. Yes
    2. No, as long as they are on the same Intel controller (here I'm not 100% sure, so try googling for a precise answer).
    3. TRIM is not yet supported in RAID for Z77 (AFAIK), so I would connect the SSD to the ASMedia controller, if Intel SATA is set to RAID. Here's a post that might help: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/286329-14-comparing-controllers-sata
