More about budget gaming build
  1. Here are two articles on a amd and intel $500 gaming build to get you started.

FWIW I like newegg better than tiger.

You can mix and match components.
Check the prices since they should have changed.
  2. HDD prices have gone up that 500 build that you listed would cost higher now.
  3. One way of dealing with high [ only temporary] hard drive prices might be to get an SSD .
A small[ish] model for a boot drive would let you install windows and some games now , and in a month when things return to normal then you will probably have $50 for a 1 terabyte hard drive
  4. prices aren't going to return to normal for maybe a year

right now, a 120 GB SSD is similarly priced to a 1 TB HDD.

what this means is you probably will go with a smaller hard drive and step down on either the processor or step back on the GPU to cover the difference and stay in budget.
  5. here is a $600 build

    i5-2400: $189.99

    AS Rock H61M-VS: $59.99

    G.Skill 4GB DDR3-1333 10666: $22.99

Hitachi 500 GB HDD + free DVD Burner: $99.99

    HIS HD6850 + DIRT3: $149.99

    Antec Neo Eco 400W 80+ PSU: $44.99

    Rosewill R102 micro-atx mini tower: $29.99

    total $597.93

    Shipping: $4.99

    total: $602.92

This is pretty close to identical to my current build.
