How to test for dead components using multimeter

Hello, how to test for dead components such as resistors, capacitors, diode and ics using multimeter

Errrrrr. on a Mobo , GPU etc etc....?
It would drive you bats.... there must be a zillion small minute components on the Mob itself to put you off that method of testing.
It makes me shiver to think about it. And if you plan on doing it, take a year or two off from doing whatever else you do.
