Upgrading from my AMD 5000+

Hi, I haven't been in the gaming scene for a while. I am currently running a AMD 5000+ with a ATI HD 3850, Antec 550w and 2gb Ram with Vista. I want to upgrade my system to todays gaming, and don't know what is the best bang for the buck. I would like to reuse some of my stuff, mainly want to upgrade my CPU and Mobo and then go from there to satisfy my gaming needs. I would like some suggestions on a setup that will go $200-$400. Game I'm looking at is Dirt3. I am debating on either i5 or 960T.

  3. Will those setups allow me to run high settings for dirt3? I was wondering if extra $80 of the i5-2400 make a difference in gaming compared to the i3-2120 with the setup stated by sosofm?
  4. Yes those setups will alow you to play smooth Dirt3.
Here is a benchmark between 2120 and 2400 and the diference in gaming is almost maybe 1%. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/44339-intel-core-i3-2120-core-i5-2400-lga1155-processors-review.html
If you raise the budget buy 6870. You can buy i5 2300 if you want to have a quad core. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115076 is with 10$ cheaper then 2400.
  5. Thanks, looks like I'll stick with the 2120 and raise my budget for a better video card.
  6. That's a good ideea.
  7. Just a quick questions, will my current P/S be able to keep up with the new setup?
  8. Yes , your setup can run even with a 450W PSU.
  9. Sorry to not mention, will the i3 2120 with hd6870 run games at 1080?
