Single or CF

I am after a new GPU,was looking at a 6970 but was thinking would i be better off getting two 6870`s in CF but i dont know enough to make a informed decision. I have been told that some games run better in CF and some run better with a single GPU.Currently i am running two 1 gig 4870 in CF and was told that i would be lucky if i gained 30% performance. Now one thing i do know is that the newer cards are better in CF but i dont want to buy two cards and get little gain for the extra out lay so thats why i was hopeing that you guys could point me in the right direction please.

A single HD 6970 should be faster than both of them combined. You can get a single 6970 right now and when the need arises you can get another one and crossfire it

@r1ahul, 6970 is not faster than CFed 6870s.
Andy, get the 6970, it's a lot faster than your 4870 and it does not have such a big problem with microstuttering in CF as 6870.

I meant a single HD 6970 is better than his current setup i.e. 2 HD 4870
