Rampage IV HDD/SSD limit???

Why can't i have more than 6 hard drive's on my Rampage IV Extreme with 8 sata ports?

I have 1 ssd and 5 hdd's connected but i cant add a 7th hard drive....

I have 4-5 other old backup hdd's lying around and they won't connect either when i have 6 drives connected....but when i take out a random hdd from the pc and put in another one it works fine as long as i stay within the strange 6-hard drive limit

Oh and i have AHCI and Hot Swap enabled in BIOS.

Are you using Intel and ASMedia ports? Or only Intel?
Have you installed the ASmedia driver?
