I'm currently running Intel i7-920 and I've read that it supports both double and triple channel memory. I'm considering upgrading my RAM from 6GB to either 12GB (3x4GB) or 16GB (4x4GB). My motherboard has 6 memory slots and the manual states that it can support four modules in a triple channel memory configuration with 3 modules in slots A1, B1, and C1 and the fourth module in slot A2. This seems kind of odd and I'm wondering if my motherboard will even be able to use a fourth module if I install as specified.
My manual also states: "According to Intel spec definition, DDR3-1600 is supported for one DIMM per channel only. Asus exclusively provides two DDR3-1600 DIMM support for each memory channel." Given that and the 4 modules in a triple channel configuration thing, does this mean that i can use a 4x4GB kit at 1600mhz properly in a triple channel configuration?
