Pci-e x16 3.0 gfx in 1.0 mobo

I've read some threads where they say that 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.0 @ some performance loss

i have an asus p5b board which is apparently 1.0 and am planning on buying a 04G-P4-3688-KR which is 3.0 to replace my current card a 7950gt i would imagine the new card will outperform the old one by a lot but how much performance loss should i expect compared to a mobo with 3.0 pci-e?

  1. You are planning to buy a EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified, correct?

If so this card will be immensely too powerful for a system that is still using pci-e 1.0.

I would say you should upgrade the other parts on your PC before spending so much on this GPU.

    What CPU are you running?

What is your PSU and how much power does it output?

What is the exact model of your motherboard?

    What resolution is your monitor?
  2. well... currently the gfx seems to be the bottleneck

    got core2duo 6300
    550W psu
    asus p5b
1600x1200 but could increase it to 1920x1440
