i currently have the SB live x-gamer and would like to get another one so i can use my mixer with my computer. (two winamps, one card for each insance of winamp) is this possible? i was thinking i should get a phillips or something else so the chips don't have the same name? i would prefer to get the 5.1 platnium.
thanks for the help
sorry, i should have been more specific. i know i can have 2 sounds cards but can i have 2 SB live cards in the same machine? one x-gamer and one platnium 5.1. i have heard that the drivers may not be able to decipher which card is which or something to that effect
To my knowledge the actual card itself is the same, the Platinum just comes with the Live Drive, the X Gamer comes with other stuff, but the actual physical Creative Labs SB Live is identical... so why, why would you want to put to in the system? They have two outputs for 2 sets of speakers, I don't get your need for two cards.
i have a mixing board for dj'ing. i will have two winamps open at the same time. one winamp is configured for one sound card, the other winamp is configured for the other sound card. this way i can have the output of the first winamp going into channel on my mixer and the output of the second winamp going to the other channel on my mixer. this way i can fade, change the pitch, etc of an output while it is not playing (and the other is playing).
the reason i would like to have 2 SB live cards in the same machine is so i can have the live drive and that sweet remote (i currently have the x-gamer)
will the drivers and the os not be able to handle having 2 identical sound cards?
kn7671: i need two cards because i need two different sources(the two winamps). if i plugged in two speakers to the one card i would get the same source
Never tried two cards before, but have had an on-board sound with a internal card as well, and both worked at the same time, but as for two identical cards that the system uses could pose a problem. One instance I could think of would be that when you go to choose the source for sound input or output, Windows would list the same device twice, unless it lists SB Live #1 and SB Live #2. Try it and let us know.
i'm not sure if you'll have a problem with 2 lives, but i have a sblive and awe64 with no problems. my inclination is that since they'll be on different IRQ and in different PCi slots you should be able to use two identical sound cards. but that's just a hunch.
