Hello,
I recently added a new 80mm fan into my system, and after hooking it up to one of the 4 pin molex my system could not boot. Plus the pull on the fan was pretty low. So I switch to a different 4 pin molex and everything's fine. Does this mean that my 750w OEM power supply is garbage and should be replaced? I'm concerned, especially since I'm updating my video card very soon.

If It can't power an 80mm fan, it is garbage. Buy a new one by corsair, antec, seasonic, xfx, and many other reputable brands.

Yip it is a bit funky, low end parts thrown in then marked up

If you are gonna be running a single mid-high level card then a solid 500W/550W is just peaches.

But why one molex and not the other? Does this mean that there's a limitation to voltage amonge seperate channels? I thought even a stock 750w would at least handle a small addition, especially when my system advertised itself as a gaming rig with room for advancement. Or did I just get burned on a power supply that can only handle 450w at best? Or just faulty channels?

Maybe a overloaded rail(if PSU got more then one rail) or bad connections in the molex plug itself. You can always try to power the fan form the same rail, but a different molex plug.

Yes it could simply be a bad molex connector.
Did you have a look at the pins?

They didn't look very different. My prime concern was if I needed to replace my power supply if I were to upgrade the video card. It would seem pretty wasteful to toss out a 750w, unless it was just no good. Is there a way I could test this power supply without risking damaging my hardware?

Probably need a new PSU. It will be worth it if you are getting a new video card as well. I recommend Corsair.
