First high end rig, and would love some advice on the hardware

Hi everyone. I've been a long time reader of Tom's Hardware, but only now am I really in a position to buy and build my first high end rig. I've done some research and I would love for people to offer their opinions on the hardware I have picked out, or tell me that what I have designed is going to combust upon first boot. So you know, I'm trying to build a machine that can do high end gaming and will be able to sustain that for a little bit of time in the future as well on a budget of about 2500-2800.

I'm not sure how I'd like to proceed on the mobo and CPU but I've narrowed it down to two choices:

An Asus P67 Pro with an Intel i7 2700k

or

An Asus Rampage III Extreme with an Intel i7 960

Advice on that choice would be great also. For the rest of my system:

Case: ThermalTake Armor+ VH6000BWS

Graphics Cards: EVGA 012-P3-1571-KR GeForce GTX 570 HD w/Display Port (x2)

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3

Hard Drives: Corsair Force Series 240GB SDD & Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s

Power Supply: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RSA00-AMBAJ3-US 1000W ATX12V v2.3

So, like I said, any thoughts, noticeable pitfalls, or bad choices you all think I have made, please let me know. Thanks,

-Josh

More about first high love advice hardware
  1. For cpu id go with a i5 2500k. Seems like the extra money towards the i7 2700k is not really worth it according to everyone " read tomshardware reviews and benchmarks on it ". Then u can put the extra 100 bucks to some other part =) maybe a better gpu.
  2. Thanks for the advice. If I save money on the 2500k, I'll kick my graphics cards up to GTX 580's
