Faulty PSU or Incompatible?

I have a OCZ MODXSTREAM PRO 700w Power Supply thats around 2 1/2 years old. recently I purchased a P5Q that i thought i had bought absolutely dead.. my power supply works absolutely fine with 2 other motherboards (both micro atx with only 4 pin connectors.) however when I tried to connect the 4 or 8 pin connector to my P5Q or 780i board i didn't get any post at all, and they both seem to work with another power supply.. anyone know what causes this?
