Hello .

I'm planning to buy a new computer system so i'm searching for new memory modules but i don't know which one I should take.

I found 3 brands:

OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC Edition
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_8500_reaper_hpc_edition

CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-8500C5D
http://www.corsairmicro.com/products/go.aspx?pn=TWIN2X2048-8500C5D

Team Xtreem TXDD2048M1066HC5DC-D 2GB
http://www.teamgroup.com.tw/teamgroup/en/productDetail.php?pd_id=11&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=3

All are 2 x 1GB DDR2 PC8500 1066.
I'm going to overclock my processor to 3,2 or 3,6 Ghz in combination with:

Gigabyte-X38-DS4 motherboard (X38 chipset)
Sapphire HD4850 512MB
Samsung F1 500GB
Cooler Master 520M (520 Watt power supply)
Antec Ninehundred case.

So could anyone give me some advice ?

Regards -xx-

This is what I have and would suggest

You would be much better off with 2x2gb rather than 2x1gb even with a 32bit OS. Your system won't recognize all 4gb but Vista at idle uses about 1.5gb so with only 2gb you don't leave yourself a lot of headroom. Plus if you decide to use a 64bit OS now or in the future you have the option to add another 2x2gb and your making the most of your available memory slots.

Doesn't fit within my budget.
I would like to have 2 x 1GB. ;)

If it doesn't fit in your budget why are you looking at DDR2 8500?

You would be much better off with DDR2 6400. You didn't list a CPU but it's likely going to be either a 1066 or 1333FSB processor. With 1066 @ stock you need DDR2 533 to run 1:1 while with a 1333 it's 667. DDR2 800 will allow you to overclock the CPU to 1600FSB before you have to worry about overclocking the RAM. Most quality DDR2 800 will overclock quite well and I've seen them as high as 1100-1200 so if your budget is limited your much better off with 2x2gb of DDR2 800.

Something like this

or for an extra $20

I used to have these and it's great RAM

Unfortunately I don't live in the US , I live in Holland (We've euros) and mushkin is an expensive brand in my country.

I'm looking for PC8500 modules under the 60 euro's (60 euro's = 93,68400 American dollars source: google).

I used tweakers.net pricewatch and I found these 3 modules. <60 euro. There were more but not good brands.

Yep it would be really helpful to know which processor you're going for. DDR2-800 will take the Q9450 to 3.2Ghz and the E8400 to 3.6Ghz without needed to overclock the memory itself.

What are you going to be using the system for? If you're into heavy video encoding and need to try and OC a quad up to 3.6ghz then you'll want higher memory. Otherwise, for games and such, I'd just get 4gb of DDR2-800 and put the extra $ into a video card. I'd also do X38 instead of X48 to save some $.

Quads will get hot pretty fast when overclocking so make sure you have a good heatsink like the Xigmatek.

I'd be careful with the Coolermaster 520W PSU.. it's made by a different OEM than Coolermaster's better quality 800W+ units.. Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling are your best choices in the 500W-750W range. Will depend on your video card; Processors and video cards both draw their power from the PSU's 12v rail so it's very important to get a high quality PSU with a strong 12v rail!

I have the Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 and I run 4GB (2x2) G.Skill DDR2-1066, got it off new egg for like $115 and its great. It overclocks pretty good and it works great in the board. G.Skill is by far my favorite brand, I run it in every system.

I think I'm going to buy the Team Extreem modules, they are good overclockers (Micro D9 chips) and have lifetime warranty!

It's your money so you can do what you want but why would you come on here to ask advice and when everyone says you would be better off doing something else you ignore them.

There is no such thing as DDR2 1066 JEDEC sets the specifications for memory and the highest standard for DDR2 is 800, anything higher is sold at it's overclocked speed. You will have to go into the BIOS and manually set the voltage and timings to what they are rated for once you get the RAM so essentially you will be overclocking the RAM yourself but their just telling you how. Why pay to have them tell you how to overclock rather than putting that money into more RAM.

Get a Crucial Ballistix 2x2gb ddr2-800 (pc2-6400) kit timed at 4-4-4-12 and you will have more than enough. If you do reach the 400mhz FSB the RAM overclocks quite well.
