Upgrading my cpu forum

Hello, Would it be safe to upgrade my pentium d2.66 to this pentiumd3.4? same socket but worried about power supply issues.
This link is showing what I want to upgrade to.http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=PD-945&show=p
It says that is it 95w consumption. what I need to know is if my cpu (The pentium D 2.66) is also 95w power consumption. Some places I look say it is and other places say it 95w Thermal design power. (which I don't know if that's the same as power consumption) Assuming that my cpu is also 95w, it should be safe to upgrade to the linked cpu correct? I need exact reason why it is not if I am right about it being safe to upgrade.

  1. Hello coldflamexz;

    Pentium D 805 Smithfield 2.66GHz? Voltage: 1.25-1.4V
    Pentium D 945 Presler 3.4GHz? Voltage: 1.225V-1.312V

    What motherboard?
    You check the motherboard's CPU support list to confirm it's compatible.

    There will not be a power supply issue.
  2. As WR2 has said, what is your motherboard, it may support a core-2, which will outperform a "D" even at lower clock speeds.
