Upgrading my cpu forum

Hello, Would it be safe to upgrade my pentium d2.66 to this pentiumd3.4? same socket but worried about power supply issues.

It says that is it 95w consumption. what I need to know is if my cpu (The pentium D 2.66) is also 95w power consumption. Some places I look say it is and other places say it 95w Thermal design power. (which I don't know if that's the same as power consumption) Assuming that my cpu is also 95w, it should be safe to upgrade to the linked cpu correct? I need exact reason why it is not if I am right about it being safe to upgrade.

Pentium D 805 Smithfield 2.66GHz? Voltage: 1.25-1.4V
Pentium D 945 Presler 3.4GHz? Voltage: 1.225V-1.312V

What motherboard?
You check the motherboard's CPU support list to confirm it's compatible.

There will not be a power supply issue.

As WR2 has said, what is your motherboard, it may support a core-2, which will outperform a "D" even at lower clock speeds.
