IDE question

Hey I just bought a new system and completely forgot that my dvdr/w drive is IDE instead of SATA. My new board is a z77 extreme6 that has the one IDE slot for a floppy drive but would that work if I'm able to connect an IDE cord from the disk drive to the motherboard without damaging anything?

The z77 extreme6 includes a floppy connector, not an IDE connector. You'll have to buy a new SATA DVD-RW, but they are inexpensive.

Thanks, I was seeing if I could avoid that but at least it's cheap.
