Hey guys i looking to build a new rig for around $200 just a basic system for doing word processing and internet usage etc. however, im still looking for performance and to get most bang for my buck..

im current stuck on deciding what cpu to get, ive used both amd and intel for previous builds and i like them both

ive been looking at the follow processors

Intel Pentium E5700 Wolfdale 3.0GHz - $66.99 + 6.99s/h on newegg.ca (im in canada)

AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.1GHz - 74.99 + 4.99 S/H on newegg.ca

AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition Heka 2.8GHz - 74.99 + free shipping on newegg.ca

Which would be the best performance for the price?

or maybe

Intel Celeron E3400 Wolfdale 2.6GHz 49.99 - 6.99s/h

I'd grab a Pentium G620, should perform better than any of those at the same price and also has great integrated graphics. An AMD A4 might be worth a consideration for the same reason. Both are newer, more efficient CPU's.

Here is a hierarchy chart for current (and some past) CPUs. While the chart is labled a 'gaming cpu chart', you can use it to compare relative performance of the processors you are looking into. You'll notice the Phenom II X3 720 BE actually ranks a tier higher than the aforementioned G620. Plus, BE processors have unlocked multipliers and sometimes can have their dormant core(s) unlocked with a motherboard that has ACC function.

Just remember that the x3 be is an oem, so it doesn't come with a cooler.

For your requirements any of those will be just fine.
if you are looking at 200 total be sure you get a motherboard that supports ddr3
it is 2 times as cheap.
AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.1GHz - 74.99 + 4.99 S/H on newegg.ca
Seems like the best bang for your buck since
AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition Heka 2.8GHz - 74.99 + free shipping on newegg.ca
doesn't have a cooelr and that is another 10 dollars for a cheap cooler.

at this price range it might be better to just buy a refurbished computer then trying to build one with all new parts.

I think I overestimated the Pentium a bit but still, having the 1155 socket just seems worth it to me.

There, you have a valid point. I would opt for the 1155 socket as well. I was just trying to work with the choices he offered.
