Scythe Gentle Typhoon Fans issue

not sure if this is proper area of the forum but here goes.

I recently bought a 360 Rad with 3 3000RPM Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans that came with a Molex and a 4 pin connector. I have them all plugged into a Scythe Kaze Ace Pro fan controller. Issue im having is the fan controller wont control the speeds of these fans and they are incredibly loud. I have tried having them plugged into just the fan controller and they wont power on. They seem to require me to have them plugged into the PSU directly. Anyone know how to fix this or is this a flaw of the fan?

More about scythe gentle typhoon fans issue
  1. i dont think those fans are speed controllable--they draw the power from the molex and the 3 pin only reads the

    speed

    they dont make this clear when they sell them

    you may be able to use these to connect to the fan controller

    some one here with the same issue--he said

    This is what Scythe told me
    it is not possible to regulate the speed fan with fan controler.
    The fan is not getting power from the fan controler but directly from the PC power supply.

    edit first links gone wonky will try to fix it
  2. url wasnt found. thats upsetting tho, unable to return them to the place i got em from. now i need to find a good performance 120mm fan that isnt extremely loud for my 360 rad :(.
  3. yeah sorry--dont know why it wont copy the link properly

    get silverstone air penetrator fans--they are meant to work really well with rads due to the way they push the

    air in a focused column

    not as suitable for exhaust fans but great for pushing the air through the rad

    and can get in different led colours if you want led fans

    ???
    Should have come with a 4 pin peripheral ( Molex ) and 3 pin female fan connector for the tach cable

    You can use an adapter like this;
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=608
    pull the tach cable from its connector and install it on the adapter's connector, now you have fan speed control and rpm monitoring from the Scythe

    cheers thats what i was trying to show with my 1st link

    dont know why i cant copy and paste links from amazon--every other link i copy and paste works ok--like the

    youtube one i just did
  6. So i can just get the molex to 3pin adaptors and it would solve my issue?
  7. If you just want to slow them down, you can buy a device that is plugged in between the fan and the power supply to slow the fan down. (If you are handy with electronics, all it is is a resistor on the 12v line)
  8. delluser1's link is perfect. You can even make that adapter if you need to.

    That allows a fan controller to vary the voltage then you convert that plug(3 pin fan) to something the fan will take(4 pin molex). Once all is said and done, you can connect the yellow cabled 3 pin plug to the motherboard and still see the fans speed in the bios and windows monitoring software.

    Another mod would be to 5 volt mod the fan, but I am not sure it that fan will start on 5 volts or not(the 5 volt mod just involves swapping the yellow and red wires in the molex(on the male end) and NEVER plugging anything but fans into it from then on.).
  9. not sure how low a voltage you can use on these and still start the fan

    this site lists the voltage range from 10.2v to 13.8v

    does that mean dropping the voltage below that then the fans may not spin up?

    And they're described as silent;

    "The Scythe "Gentle Typhoon" 120mm x 25mm Fan achieves high airflow volume and low noise with the newly designed impeller, enabling silent cooling of the latest devices which run very hot. This fan is also silenced by the newly designed motor and motor support mechanism of the Gentle Typhoon uses a double vibration reduction structure."

    Silent, compared to what ?
  13. silent compared to a jet engine, but loud compared to a gtx 580 or 6990 on full boar 0.o. thanks for the info guys
