Dropped external hard drive

Hello, Me external hard drive fell bottom came off plugged it back in now my laptop will not recognize it. Have all of my tax paper on it with completed return. Will I be able to recover it?

The best thing you can do easily is check for external damage, if there is no visible damage, you're going to have to see the inside / warranty. Hard drives have moving parts inside, and a drop could dislodge any number of those parts and the worst case scenario is that something internal is screwed.

I can assist you more if I could see the hard drive :)
 
depends if you broke the hard drive or the enclosure

best way to check is take the hard drive out and put it in a pc to see if its recognised

as long as the drive is spinning you should be able to recover your data

if its not spinning then you are talking silly money to have it recovered in a clean room environment

I have the same problem I have. my computer doesn't recognize the drive and there are about 5 to 6 buzzing sound and then the sound stopped.

It's still under warranty but I have a lot of files, my four years of work I stored in the drive.

Can somebody give me some recommendation? btw, it's a 2T hitachi.
