Good upgrade?

Hello there,
My friend currently has the AMD Phenom II X4 955 which has the AM3 socket. He is planning on upgrading very soon, April 1'st to be precise. Money is not an issue. I am thinking the AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz which has an AM3+ socket. Now I know that there could be slight to huge issues of bottle necking due to the fact that he has Nvidia GTX 560 for a GPU but currently upgrading the CPU would still make his computer run faster. (GPU is subject to change in the future)

Really what I'm asking is what would be an amazing upgrade in processors. He told me and I quote "... Im tired of buying cheap...so this time ima just buy like a $300-400 processor...so again price isn't a prob"

Current CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

My Recommended: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Please respond and thanks for reading!

Overclock. If he is willing to spend that much why not just an i5-2500k and an asrock z68 extreme 3 gen 3? :heink:

Yes.. I considered just changing Mobos and switching him to intel but let's face it.. he would break the mobo installing it

I don't think a Zambezi CPU will work properly in an AM3 socket MB, you need an AM3+ socket MB. So I don't think your recommended upgrade will work.

He got his computer sent to him prebuilt by iBuyPower. He may end up putting it in wrong or not using static gloves and paper and fry the board

Why not help him? Honestly you just need to discharge your self by touching something grounded, static gloves are overkill ;)

I would but.. He lives in texas.. I'm in North Dakota.. So if you can find me a TARDIS or teleport system of course I will! And his mobo is actually an AM3+ :p

agree with amuffin, you can get i5+z68 at that price and will be around 60-80% faster than 955, and bd are slower than i5 and phenom 2 at same clock in litely threaded tasks.

Well yes it is.. for basic computer needs. He needs hardcore computer power. He runs the happycreepers youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/HappyCreepers and even though you can't see it in his videos his computer does struggle with recording and playing the games.
