Forum Systems : New Build First build - i5 2500k haf 922

Hey guys,

I'm looking to do my first build and upgrade from my old macbook pro (2007!) to a desktop. I will be using this computer primarily for watching videos/learning programming (recently began teaching myself so nothing too serious yet), and also for some photoshop and gaming (I want to get black ops, I don't know much about other pc gmes but I assume I will try some out).

preferred sites- newegg or amazon.

I've been waiting for nice deals over the weekend and so far have gotten:

Cooler Master HAF ATX Mid Tower Case, RC-922M-KKN1-GP (Black) -$79.00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] s_product]

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL - $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231428

Asus VH238H Black 23" Full HD HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor w/Speakers 250 cd/m2 ASCR 50,000,000:1
(1920 x 1080) - $129.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824236117

Antec Neo Eco 520C 520W ATX SLI & CrossFireX Power Supply - $53
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371030

Hitachi Deskstar 3.5" 500GB 7200RPM SATA II 16MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0F10381 - $65
http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-Desk [...] 660&sr=1-1 (went up to $99 after I bought it)

For processor I want the i5 2500 or 2500k, not sure if I will be unlocking or not. I would have purchased it already but it recently jumped $20-$30 dollars so now I'm waiting :(

Windows 7 pro student price - $65

So assuming that goes back to $200 that puts me at about $625 so far including the screen without rebates.

Now, I don't really want to spend over $850 for the whole package but if I have to go a little over I guess I will. Keep in mind I would like this to last me a couple yrs.

Can you guys recommend me some options for GPU's, Motherboard, and Power Supply?
I will still be on the hunt thru cyber monday so I would like some options that I can decide on the fly whether or not to buy.

Much appreciated!

Oh i forgot to add- hard drive as well.. I would prefer something 750-1TB range.

My eyes are bleeding from all this research I need some expert help!

I'm hoping to stay within a:

$50 range for a PSU,

$100-130 range for the GPU

$100 range for the motherboard

no more than $100 for the HDD

the optical i have. and mouse and keyboard.

first of all tell u the truth it will not fit into 850 budget
I would get p67 /z68 decent/cheap mobo and i3-2100 and then just swap it for Ivy bridge in couple years
for GPu go with hd 6850 it's in ur price range and will last u for some time
don't go lower then $75 on PSU unless u can find sale that's one of the parts u don;t want to cheap out on
also get a cheaper case like antec 300

Thanks for the replies.

I found the

Antec Neo Eco 520C 520W ATX SLI & CrossFireX Power Supply for $50 dollars should I grab that?

Update - I asked in the other forum and got a recommendation to buy so I did.

I did the calculator and got a recommendation of 357 :)

So that leaves me with about 175 for the GPU and mobo. Gonna do a little research now. Realized I may go over my original price but its ok.

Personally I think I would go with the mATX board and save the money. Here is a review...
