I have been unable to install my ATI All-In-Wonder 128 32MB; After install my monitor switches to power-save and does not recover. ATI tech support guessed from the symptoms that I have an AMD processor with VIA (or ALi) chipset, which I do.

Has anyone heard of similar problems and more importantly, what can I do about it?
Please help.

Below is the lengthy reply from ATI tech support with suggestions which I followed, and still the card won't install correctly.

Thank you for contacting ATI Technical Support Canada.

Regarding your system emulating standby mode shortly after the computer
starts.

Are you using an AMD based processor or does your motherboard us a VIA or
ALI chipset? Your system is exhibiting behaviour typical of non-Intel based
computers which do not have the appropriate chipset patches installed.
Non-Intel based computer require an AGP min port driver and IDE Bus Master
driver to be installed before installing a 128 bit video accelerator. If
your system is non-Intel, please install the required chipset patches. If
you do not have your motherboard install CD, you can download the drivers
from the chipset manufacture's Website. You may also be required to toggle
various BIOS settings. I have included a BIOS setting checklist below.
Whether your system is Intel or not, please follow the driver install script
I have included below to facilitate a clean driver install.

Should you require any further information or assistance, do not hesitate to
contact us again.

Please quote your ATI Customer Number, 932681CSC, in any future
correspondence.

Been running those cards on amds ok myself.

Whenever you get a board that runs amds you always get a cd that has the mini port driver and ide bus master on it. You always have to install them first before you do anything else. If your board is a via, go to the via web site and download the latest 4-in-1 drivers and install all of them.
