No it is good for gaming, theres just no point in getting it when the i5 2500k is cheaper and just as good

Most games don't benefit from more than 3 or 4 threads, and the ones that do barely benefit.

i5-2500k FTW!

I will advice you to do either of the following

1] 2500K
2] 2600k

The 3820 is not impressive, it puts a budget level chip onto a very expensive platform, buying either a 2500K + Z68 or alternatively a 2600K will save you more money to spend on your PSU and/or GPU.

Plus the fact that it is not a K version means it can not be OC'd as easily as a K version. It does have limited unlocked core up to 43X but from them on you hit the wall & have to do OC via base clock frequency.

Being part of a overclockers community, the general consensus is that the 3820 is intel making budget orientated chips for an expensive platform. If the 3820 was running off the 1155 platform, one could expect it to be retailed in the 250-300 bracket. In 3dmark 11 it scores the same oc'd to 4ghz as my 2500K oc'd to 4.8ghz which represents bad value for money. If you are going to go big, go big or go home is the mantra, anything less than the 3930, 3960 and 3980 is a waste of time really.

March 2, 2012 1:20:25 PM

Because i have AMD GC and there are lots of probs updating it ,on amd web the auto detect feature can not detect my gpu! when you uninstall old drivers when you are about to install new drivers it says no Graphic Adapter found!!! got this problem since 2 years now whenever i remove my old driver ,had to reinstall windows several times and i am fed using amd gpu had nvidia gpu earlier and did not have any probs,Kepler series Gtx 680 will be 45 % faster than AMD's 7970!!! and Gtx 670 will be 20 % faster

With a good cooler and solid motherboard it shouldnt be hard to get the Intel® Core™ i5-2500L up to a stable 4.4GHz to 4.5GHz. Be careful with the Corsair Vengeance memory since the heatspreader on that can reach up to 2" blocking a lot of the 3rd party HSF (heatsink/fan). If you get the low profile Corsair Vengeance memory you shouldnt run into a problem.

What if the primary concern is Photoshop, illustrator and video editing, ripping, and converting to different formats. Gaming being the lowest on the list of priorities.

Would the i7 2600k be better than the i5 2500k?
