Q. - So if you make something, is there any kind of emulator to test
on, or do you have to send something to sony to get "burned"?
dev - If you take a look at the pic of the psp devkit, you'll see it
has a dvd drive and a umd drive. Have a guess which one we use for
development?
Q. So that's a burner?
dev - Nope.
Q. So you burn to dvd andit "emulates" a umd?
dev - Bingo. Although day to day development loads across ethernet. but
yes, that is how we test disks.
Q - So in the pics it seems the psp is plugged into the dev kit via a
usb cable, or is it some kind of "special" dev psp?
dev - The controller in those pics is nothing more than the screen and
the buttons, as well as the speakers. All of the hardware is in the
devkit box. Although the 'psp' part looks like a proper psp, it only
has the screen and the buttons on it. All of the hardware is in the
main box.
Q - I get it. For "playability" testing purposes i guess?
dev - Yes, hence the big fat cable linking the two together. It weights
nothing compared to the retail machines.
Q - So nothing inside but some wire and microswitches?
dev - Probably, I haven't been brave enough to open one up.
