Hearing Myself

Hello all,
I've recently completed my first computer build, but I have an issue. After having installed and updated the drivers for my sound card, I can hear myself talk through my headset, and on top of that, no one else can hear me. No idea what to do

right click on the speaker in the tray, click recording devices, select microphone and set it as default

also mute stereo mix

ok so i jimmy-rigged it somehow, not quite sure what i did, but it's working now albeit low, all the settings are set to max for the mic volume but people still are hearing me pretty low and they've increased my volume by 700%

did u increase microphone boost too? (microphone properties>levels)

i did, they're at normal levels so far if i boost it and people on vent boost my sound to 800%

make sure you uncheck auto-level volume in your voice chat program and set your input value to max

so one more question about this, if you can please. so whenever i unplug my headset from the jack sound doesn't switch over to the ones on my monitor meaning everything's pretty much muted...so, how do i fix that?
