Which CPU?

I'm looking to upgrade my old AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition 3.0GHZ
And basically, i've been looking at the new AM3+ CPU's
I stumbled across two hex cores in particular

The first one is what i'm really interested in, it runs at a higher frequency so does that mean its just... better? It's marginally cheaper, and it says 4.2ghz clock speed? which is quicker than the turbo speed of the other? Surely this can't be right. If someone can clear up what exactly the first CPU I linked is, because I honestly can't find anything really about it. But 4.2GHZ hex core for ~£100, has to be a bargain? Thanks to anyone that can enlighten me.

The fx-4170 is not a hex core. Also you should overclock your 940, it is a be edition cpu after all. Upgrading to a bd would be a horrible choice.

Ah yeah i can see that now cheers, and with the 940, overclocking just seems a pain, I don't know really where to begin with it, What exactly is wrong with the BD Series?

Why spend money for a new processor when you can spend 30 bucks for a cooler master hyper 212+ and overclock? Read 4ryan6's guide http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/258573-29-black-edition-overclock-guide-raising-multiplier

Say if i could overclock it to around 3.8ghz, would that make it still inferior to the 4170 or am i looking at the clock speeds wrong here?

Should perform much better than the 4170. It's performance at stock clocks are relative to the FX-8150 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/80?vs=434 so overclocking it to 3.8ghz should put it on par with an phenom x6-fx 8xxx series cpu.
