USB 3 ASrock Z77 Extreme 4

Hi forum.

You can find my system specs on my profile.
My issue : Right so I am not ignorant of PCs at all but this is vexing me. Some of my USB 3 ports are totally unresponsive. They provide power but nothing else. As far as I can tell the ports giving issues are all ASMedia third party controlled. The ports are unresponsive to any and all USB devices I have tried.(mouse, multiple drives USB2 and 3, flash drives, etc.)

What I have tried :
Latest BIOS update (among other things improves USB compatibility)
Latest ASMedia and Intel USB drivers after uninstal and clean sweep.

Now I am almost to the point of going for a fresh windows install but would like to avoid it for now as the installation is barely 3 months old and quite well maintained otherwise.
I have googled this as well and have found many people with similar issues but none of the solutions have helped.

Can anyone help?

  1. Hi, It might be a controller issue. Is it enabled in BIOS? If yes and still no go, I would RMA the board.
  2. ^^agreed
check to see if everything is enabled.

It should be, have not disable it. Let me check...
  4. Ok it seems it is fixed FOR NOW, I have found this very intermittent...
I have disable USB legacy support and uninstalled ASRock FastUSB.

Either one by itself made no difference but together it worked...

So strange, although I am pretty sure this will happen again.

If it does I will resort to a fresh install just to be sure before I RMA.
  5. i really didnt install the Fast USB the first time i setup my PC. what i did install was the USB 3.0 driver from the CD.

I did both as directed. FastUSB does provide a small boost to transfer speeds, especially when streaming.
  7. Nope its dead again... Its only the ASmedia ports it seems...
  8. Resorting to fresh install in few minutes if no one has advice?
