Top CPU for Intermediate Video Editing

I am looking to build a PC in the near future specifically for video editing using Adobe After Effects & Sony Vegas... what would be a good CPU for me? I was thinking an i7-2600K but I don't know if that's going way above and beyond for my needs. At the same time, I would like to future-proof it in the event I decide to get into much more advanced edits. My budget is around $1,000. I really don't plan on doing much, if any gaming. Any suggestions?

the i7-2600k would be a good choice and the fit your stated objectives

you can drop down to the 2500k if budget issues arise, still a very good chip for video editing
