What are you getting on the screen? A blank screen or a no signal/display unplugged message?
If you have a graphics cards and integrated graphics you need to disable the integrated graphics to use the graphics card.

i have the same mobo like you.. M5A78L-M LX V2, i used AMD FX 6300, nvidia quadro 600 and 8gb RAM.. everything is great and smooth..

why don't you try updating the BIOS from asus website. their latest update is 2012.12.03, because some of the newer processor is not supported by outdated BIOS.
