How do I turn off programs that run on startup?

Didn't even give me an OS to work with but here goes...

Four Places:
1. In the "startup" folder in your start menu.
2. In the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run
3. In the LOAD= or RUN= section of your win.ini file
4. In XP under "services" in control panel

Start Menu -> Run.
Type in msconfig and go to the Startup tab.
