New build/re-build

Hi, I have an HPE-580t that I have been slowly upgrading to something I can start to tinker & get into overclocking etc. I'm planning on making some major upgrades (motherboard, ssd, maybe chip & memory) soon but I'm not too sure whether I should use the chip I have (i7 960) & build around that or if I should start from scratch with something like the i5 2500k. Any thoughts & maybe recommendations on a motherboard? Thanks.

I would keep the i7-960 CPU since you already have it. It's a pretty good CPU and it's performance is still great even for older tech.
