wow, 6-8 vms at same time, well you definately need 16-32gb ram.
For this much vms + gaming at same time then 8150, as more cores will help. Or i7 2600k.
But if you want 1 thing at a time then i5 have a clear path.

Also both are overclockable then good air/water cooler is good to consider.

i5 2500k has been proven to be better than the FX 8120 in nearlly everything.

The only thing that the FX 8120 has been proven to be better is video rendering and multi tasking, thats where the 8 cores come in.

But I would personally go for the 15 2500k for gaming, and it is also cheaper than the FX 8120.

^maybe you mean i5 2500K is cheaper than the FX 8150. The FX 8120 is cheaper than the i5 2500K.

To OP:
But even then, it is worth to get the i5 2500K even with the price premium. If you can afford it, get the i7 2600K for your vms but if not, stick with the i5 2500K.

Haha, yeah thats what i meant.

Im not a Intel fan boy and was considering AMD, but I will never buy a AMD CPU until they get their work straight.

Instead of making an 8 core processor, they could focus more on a powerful quad core processor, and maybe beat the i5/i7
They really need to think. Just because it has 8 cores does not mean that they are quality.

There is no Intel 8 core CPU, hyperthreading does not mean it has 8 cores. It is 4 cores and hyperthreading helps the CPU work those 4 cores.
which improves better gaming, video editing and multi-tasking.

yes i agree, i just use the wrong sentence, but up there they commented about working on a new 8 core processor, like you said there is no 8 core processor,,, because we see the #of threads = 8 core and the #of core=4 for an intel core i7, they are just the number of threadsand not the cores

ok, true

I just do not know why people want to buy AMD 8 core processors because they think the more cores the better.
AMD just need to clean themself up and stop making 8 core processors & start making more powerful Quad-Core processors, because thats why Intel are beating them.

If they atleast make a good quad core processor to beat the i5 2500k, they can gain their rep up and get more money and then take their time and invest on trying to make a better 8 core CPU.

Intel are smart, because they are working on an 8 core processor at the moment, but they want it to be good, so their taking there time. If intel wanted to they could make an AMD processor in a week.

AMD need to slower it down, and stop rushing things before its too late and they will lose money & will be forced to sell the company ATI.
