Not sure what type of motherboard to choose for CPU

I need some one to tell me is there any difference between core i7 and 3rd gen core i7 when chosing a motherboard? This is my first time building a desktop so I'm just looking at components right now. The CPU I'm currently looking at is the

Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I73770

When I looked on newegg and filtered my search when I chose 3rd gen i7 as CPU I only had 3 to chose from and they 2 weren't meant for a gaming build and the last had a very low customer rating. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

More about type motherboard choose
  1. Not all motherboards will support the 3rd Generation cpu's out of the box, some will need a bios update. Examples would be mobo's with older chipsets (p67). What is youre budget for this mobo? We would be happy to suggest somthing.

    ASUS Maximus V FORMULA $289.99

    ASUS P8Z77-V PRO $198.99

    ASRock Z77 Extreme4 $127.99

    MSI ZH77A-G43 $89.99
  2. I guess my budget is around 1500 right now I'm just doing research on components before really spending. I know I want to get one that SLI supported
  3. I highly recommend the Sabertooth Z77 board, very good for overclocking and has SLI/Crossfire support as well as a ton of other features!
