Thing is, hiding them from YOUR PC is only a temporary patch, nothing that actually prevents you from looking like a human endorsing advertisement post.

So I'm holding out on blocking them until I see them gone from the forums. Hiding from the problem for yourself only doesn't really solve anything in the end if everyone else without the fix can still see it.

A good news though, our own webmaster has alerted the big guys about the irritation this gives us.

Good to know that he has done so. I wonder how many PMs he received. I certainly sent mine.

I thought that Fredi had exclusive control over the site?

Yes but logically speaking you can also assume that Fredi manages the content he's given and ordered to deal with, and doesn't decide on what to add.

He is simply following what the big guys told him to incorporate.

Wow. You know, I hadn't even thought of that angle. But damn! I mean that is a really good point and makes it ten times worse. :O

Cool. Then you can tell us when (if) they're gone, right? (That way we don't have to be annoyed by them to know if they're gone.)

Double cool. I hope Fredi has some clout, because IMHO these adverts are a pox upon the forum.

Now, if you only devoted as much time to that as you do to being a dumbarse, you'd really have something going.

Yeah and considering the number of things I link to and the fact that I enjoy using colours, this makes it look like it's something I'm linking to. Words like DVI come up, companies like MATROX come up and then it look like while I'm answering someone with a link to solve a problem it wind up giving them a link to car insurance or something.

For now I use 0s instead of Os or hyphenate words so that it doesn't mess with my writings.

Seriously this SUXs hard!

If they don't fix it people may eventually leave for other areas (not the 'OTHER' area  ). And I'm not just talking about the transients either. So I hope Fredi can sway the powers that be.

Same here. :O Honestly, this whole keyword pseudolink advert thing has really made a lot of sites suck. I don't visit them anymore. (THG included.) But I liked THGC. So now I use Adblock. But still, the thought that someone might think I'm personally linking or endorsing something because there's an ad in my post, that still pisses me off, even though I can't actually see the ads anymore.

If review sites like THG want to endorse this kind of crap, then fine. Let them bollocks up their reputation all they like. THG's rep has already gone down the crapper anyway. But bugger all if I'm going to put up with this crap in my own posts. If THGC doesn't get rid of these adverts soon, I'm leaving. I've been willing to put up with a lot of shite when THG sold out, but this is just too far.

I know, I'll use the 'what's an advertisment' choice...

Thanks :)

At least Anandtech doesn't use these linky thingys in their forums.
One big plus for Anandtech.

It's just that they don't have anything like Wingding or the likes in there. Boring.

Reply to Era

True that, but THG had the gren thingy for quite a while now, and suddently they extend it to community.tomshardware.com... WTH...
Big plus but mayeb Anand will do it too!

And yes boring forums!!!

I don't want to believe they would be that stupid and greedy. Unlike THG, Anand has still managed to maintain it's credibility. In my eyes at least.

Thank god some others see it like I do too. This is shameless (or unconscentious) promotion using humans.

I eagerly await what Fredi can report. In the meantime, there is a nice Feedback e-mail for just those green links on THG. Go there and let your most poetic imagination flourish that message with lovely words.

Heck, link 'em to these two polls just to show 'em what we think. I've already sent my message to them, and Fredi too. Though the latter replied with some good news, at least.

I honestly can't believe how some sites' forums have accepted that form of advertisement and go along. It's just truly embarassing.

I mean, if you wanna put on that big carton with some text on it and go on the streets sporting it to advertise for something, fine by me. But don't put advertisement on me without my consent!
