This will be my first PC build. So any further guidance then what this great website already provides would be most appreciated. I would like to build a mid-range PC that I can do the basics including: word processing/watch movies/ legacy gaming/basic photo/video editing/begining level programming. I wan to ensure that I am not locked into the parts that I decide on, i.e. I can slowly upgrade the PC without having to start from scratch.

Price Range: Below $1000

Motherboard:
asrock 990fx extreme3 mother board

CPU:

This is still under your budget amount and is more of a mid-range Pc. You would now have a better video card a higher wattage psu and more storage. I know you said you want to slowly upgrade but with some components it could be unneccessary such as the psu and the hdd. Put the OS on the SSD and use the hdd for everything else.

If you were to swap out the cpu and MB for these two then you would still be under $1000 and you would not have to upgrade for awhile.
