Heyy guys i wanna upgrade my pc's motherboard and ram as they are reallyyy outdated and bottlenecking my system....
Currently i have a pretty weak 2GB DDR2 Ram running @ 667 Mhz..:(
Also i have a core 2 duo E7400 @ 2.80 ghz (which is also outdated bt still i'll manage with it by overeclocking it) and a HD 6670 1GB DDR3...
I want 2 ask that if i upgrade my ram to 8 GB DDR3 (and ofcourse motherboard fr it) will it b ok for gaming at 1366x768 resolution??? i ain't upgrading my processor as i m nt in a budget fr it...

Could you please mention the exact games or so you would like to play ? Let me tell you a game depends mainly on a CPU and a GPu....not RAM :non: RAM just enhances your gaming. ;)
That Graphics card 6670 being a DDR3 and not a DDR5 is going to hold you back a lot :??: and that CPU is also not strong enough to compensate the loss of YOUR GPU :( (although in some cases it is impossible).
My suggestion is ( If you wanna play games like BATTLEFIELD 3/FARCRY 3/METRO 2033/Call of duty 8/9 /Prototype 2 /GTA 4/Crysis 2 /3 :sol: ) save a bit more to get at least a LGA1155 mobo along with a i3 2100....it is a dual core too but will give you a lot more fun in gaming ;) ....believe me...in this GPU too if you can not go up at all :)

NOTE-Oh another thing...how do you except to upgrade to DDR3 and keep the Core2 Duo ? A LGA775 DDR3 Mobo ???? Hell no....it is completely a antique and rare piece (don't know even if it is in the market)...It is a complete wastage of your time and money. Even if you manage to get one and manage to get one having support till 8 gb RAM with your other configuration you won't be able to go above 640*480 in the games I mentioned....Forget 1366*769 !! sORRY.

i wouldnt waste any money on that rig and if you want more ram just get the ddr2 the core2's didnt benefit much at all from ddr3 i had both a ddr2 and 3 sock 775 setup and i saw no benefit in the later.
btw speed94 a cpu will never compensate for a weak gpu, ever!

Thnxx fr the rply SPEED94...
I own crysis 2, GTA IV, Far Cry 3, battlefield 3, NFS MW 2012, Fifa13, PES 13, Max Payne 3 and currently playin all...
Bt as u mentioned abt the gaming performance that i wldn't b able to play above 640x480 bt i m currently playin all these games in 1366x768 at low-mid in Far Cry 3 BF3 GTAIV n NFS MW 12 n they are running ok nt very smooth though n games like fifa 13, pes13 n max payne 3 are running quite well n smooth at highest settings (with Antialising and anistropic off in Max payne 3)...
So thats why i wanted to upgrade ram n then wld overclock my cpu n gpu so i think it wld b enough to atleast get playable FPS in these games...
Wldnt it be???

whats the overclock you have on your c2d you should be able to get it to atleast 3.6ghz, i have had far lesser pentium d's and e's amd all my c2d's and c2q's go alot higher without crazy volts. i recently did a cheap upgrade for a friend and put a 7870 in with his c2d e8400 @3.8 it can handle bf3 at 1080p in single player but it gets destroyed as soon as you hit the multiplayer. so know your limits btw i really dont think you will see much of an improvement over 4gig ram in your setup u just dont have the gear to load it up. if your even half serious about playing games on your compu dont waste your money on an amd apu aswell

Well , I am not a gamer but from what I have heard is that Battlefield 3 really make use of a qaud core and GTA4 is reported to be a resource hog as well. :heink: Recently , I got the opportunity to play farcry 3 on my friend's PC whose configuration was very similar to yours (E7500/2 GB RAM/some Nvidia 1 gb GT*** card ) and it was not possible to get 30+ fps above 800*600 in low settings and the environment looked vogues :fou: ...However its my opinion....Well you see with increasing gaming detail and shader improvements the minimum requirements always going up..... Your setup excluding your Graphics card just passes the bare minimum of all the mentioned games....Check out at Http://www.systemrequirementslab.com :pfff: . But your Graphics card however comes close to some games recommended settings so that might be the reason for your playing MP3 in high .

That about the RAM , I can say for sure that a Game depend entirely on the CPU AND Gpu.Ram is just for temporarily holding Data before transferring to hdd.... If it was not so thousands of benchmarks made on CPU s and GPUs would not have been made. :D

My advice is again the same ...save some more for at least a i3 2100 CPU and until then play with your own setup available as LGA775 mobos do not do justice to DDR3 memories and your experience will be the same.... :??: Anyway if you are reluctant to not buy a processer here are some good options I have dug out for you..... :)

ASUS STRIKER II

ASUS P5G41T-M LX

Asrock G41M-VS3

However don't go for mixed memories (ddr2/ddr3) mobo to save the ram you are currently on..... :non:
BEST OF LUCK !!! ;)

Easy Dude, i JUST MEANT THAT Combining a 6670 with a C2D @ 2.8 Ghz won't give the same experience as a i3 2100 @
3.10 Ghz would it ? It would always be a slight better !!

not quite...changing hdd from 5400 to 7400 rpm / changing Sata to Sata II does not have any effect in gaming :) ...I think only effect it has is the windows booting and copying files become slight faster :??: ......I do have an evidence though... last year I switched directly to i5 2500k from a LGA775 Pentium 4 :ouch: I changed everything except the HDD (160 Gb 3.0Gbps), the PSU and Chassis to save some money for the graphics card :sol: ....I spend about 5 months on the new PC doing variant jobs before switching to a new 6.0 Gbps 1 TB HDD.........I did not feel any difference :)

Heyy hii guys i m back again... ;) n this tym i have upgraded my system into a reallyyy bttr Gaming rig over my previous weak system (C2D E7400 @2.80 Ghz, 2GB ram, 160GB HDD, ATI Radeon HD6670 1GB DDR3) to this new one-
I installed a Phenom2 X4 3.22 GHZ quad core
ASUS M47D EVO AM3 Motherboard
4 GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz
1 TB HDD
Cooler Master Cabinet with 5 fans (7 total fans including cpu n gpu)
Cooler Master 600 Watts Power Supply
ATI Radeon HD6670 1Gb DDR3
I havn't upgraded my graphics card as i ws out of budget bt i will get one soon so i wanna knw which GPU would be sufficient to play all latest games at high settings with my current system specs at 1366x768 resolution or higher???
