I am really stuck as to what graphics card and CPU to get. I am building a new setup which I would like to play Star Wars - The Old Republic on (Similar specs to WOW) I am currently running an athlon dual core, and geforce 6800 gtx 256mb which when I did a beta test, ran the game with a heap of lag. I want my new setup to play it smoothly on good settings. People advise me on intel i processors but they are more expensive and am looking at the cheaper amd phenom and FX options. what are your thoughts? Is it really going to make that much of a difference to pay the extra money? Budget is between £200 and £300 for these 2 items. Also graphics card suggestion. any help appreciated :D

More detailed specs would be nice but anyway hear are my suggestions

fist of all anless you are planinh on getting a new motherboard you are stuck with amd (a good thing anyway intel over priced for small porformance boost) second if you current cpu is a athlon your motherboard is most likely AM2 AM2+ at most a phenom needs a AM2+ or AM3 MOBO the new FX cpu needs the AM3+ MOBO so befor i recomend anything i need more details of your current build like MOBO and PSU information as for graphics a ATI 5..... series are cheap and would power games like WOW easerly i have 2 5850's crossfired but most games i play dont even need both to run

you are going to need a new motherboard and RAM as well since the items you have will [ probably ]not be compatible with the parts you have .

Right I think ive seen the light, lol. This is what Im looking at:
Intel core i7 2700k 3.5GHz
Sabertooth P67 Intel Motherboard
Total £404.98
2 x 4GB Corsair Vengance 1600MHz
Total £37.79
Already have new case and PSU
Will use HDD ect that I already have.
What do we think of this? Also any graphics card suggestions for the above mentioned game? :D

If it is like WoW I would advise a 560 Ti or a 6950 that would do the trick

Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr 1GB
vs
XFX ATI Radeon HD 6950 1GB

With an intel chipset and processor? Will it make much difference whether the graphics card is AMD or not?

6950>560 ti.

get a 2500k and a z68 extreme3 gen3.

also make sure you have atleast 500w PSU. GOOD PSU.

I recently had a PSU that went nuts and pretty much destroyed my rig...800$.

For WoW you should already know that it is a CPU intensive game not requiring much from the GPU area. Now that doesnt mean buy the cheapest GPU you find but you still need to get atleast a Mid-Range card (NVidia I suggest). Give me a second to pull up something and I'll post it

Well if SW proves to be more CPU intensive then GPU and you said its similar to WoW I would check this out

Thats a handy site, will bookmark that, cheers
Interesting how the I5 is slight higher than the I7 2600k
shame it hasnt got the 2700k
You suggested the nvidea yet less memory and from what I can find much less cores? Is that because it will work better with intel processor?

WoW is an Nvidia fan that does not mean AMD GPU's will not work
