I have £550 and sick of my AMD system, fairly slow for current standards and I cant overclock it all. Ive got a i7 2700k and a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Intel Z68 sat in my basket.

Should I buy?

I'd do it if you have the cash to spare. Maybe another mobo. Might be just me but I never had a decent ASUS mobo but there are some good reviews about them

What are you going to be doing with it? If you are gaming change it out for the Intel Core i5-2500K. If you are doing some heavy encoding or digital editing then I would maybe save a few and drop down to the Intel Core i7-2600K and get a HSF (heatsink/fan) and overclock it up to 4+ GHz.

saying that my old AMD Asus motherboard blew up might go for the Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 Generation 3 which also has the 16 phase power

If you are gaming, a 2500k is the best, unless you don't want to OC, then a 2500 or 2550k.

I would say grab a 2500k, and the motherboard that you have selected, and use the extra money from the 2500k instead of 2700k and get a better GPU or more RAM. Whatever you need.

Hope this helps! :)

Don't get a 2550k if you plan to OC. You have a pretty good cooler for OCing. You should hit 4.5Ghz just fine with a 2500k. The 2550k only offers a 100Mhz boost at stock and doesn't have a dedicated GPU.
