How much less does it cost to build a PC yourself vs. using a custom building retailer? I've customized a few PCs on a few different websites and they price out into the $1900-$2100 range. Are there a lot of savings to be had from buying the pieces myself and learning to build it?

Go to newegg.com and "build" the same computer with the parts you selected at one of the sites you have used. When finished, view the cart and you'll have your answer.

The savings can be substantial.

For really low end systems (<~$500) prebuilts can be better as they get discounts on the OS, for mid range (~$500-$1200) its usually pretty close, for high end systems (>~$1200) builders start making you pay extra for the "premium" parts so for a 2k system you can save around $300 if you build it yourself depending on the parts and who you were going to have build it.
