Want to upgrade graphics for gameplay.

This is my set up...

ASRock 770 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 770 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Antec VP-450 450W ATX 12V v2.3 Power Supply
PowerColor AX5570 1GBD3-H Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model
ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

I want to upgrade my gaming experience, but cheaply if possible. I want to be able to play games up to a few years back... 2007 at most. Based on my set up what can I change out, while keeping the processor and mobo intact. So I can play games like Oblivion, sports games, older Call of Duty games.

Thank you if you can help.

  1. GTX 460.
  2. Will your cpu is still good, and u have enough ram, so GPU upgrade is all that you need. An AMD 6850 is a great card and will complement your cpu very well.

I just got my 6850 yesterday, and I have to say it's a pretty nice card. It looks like it's around the 460 1GB (I think the 460 is a little faster, someone correct me if I'm wrong) but I believe it's better than the 460 768mb. So, it's really up to you, I would guess that you'll get fairly similar results with either card (the 460 would probably do a little better, but it's not insanely faster than the 6850). Another thing is, you only need 1 6-pin cord for the 6850, while the 460 needs two. And, you could consider a 6870, it's only a little bit more than a 6850 and is more powerful.
