My Computer will not start unless...

I have been having issues with my Gateway desktop DX4300-15e for a while now. It started not turning on after last summer when the power to the area was being killed 1-3 times a day for about a week. I am not sure if this affected it but it bears mentioning. Anyway I upgraded the power supply and it was running fine for a few months. Then it started not starting up again. Upon further investigation my power supply can start up another computer and thier power supply can start mine just fine. However to start my computer with my power supply I needed to power it down completly and once I put the power cord in hit the power button while the fan was still spinning and it would start right up, otherwise it will not start. Now it will not start at all. We checked the power button and power supply again and both are working fine. I need some help here bad!!! Any ideas??

Its new psu time again and maybe a UPS would help...

It does sound as if the power supply has failed, substitution with a known good power supply is the only reliable test that a home user can do.

It was the motherboard. Replaced and running great!
