In the Unknown devices of device manager it says PCI Mass Storage device. I think it is refering the the HD but the computer works fine. If anyone could help out and maybe tell me how to fix the problem that would be great.

More about : pci mass storage device

no it's refering to an ATA controller for the hard disk...it needs a driver. (could be a SCSI I suppose but doubt you have that).

Are you using the Asus A7V?
Do you have and ATA100 hard drive? If not, just right mouse click on the device icon and then disable it by checking the appropriate box.

Just PCI Mass Storage Device? or is there a "controller" added on the end? Either way, like the other guys said, it isn't your harddrive, it's the controller card. Do you have your hard drive's IDE cable plugged into the motherboard, or into the controller card? If you don't have a controller card, what motherboard are you running?

This is common with Promise IDE controllers. Load the driver for it.
