Looking at putting together the following system, any comments or advice? I realize this system is likely overkill for, well, everything, but I'm mostly interested in making sure I've got the right parts (i.e. will this cooler work well with this CPU, in this case?). I'd like to pull the trigger in the next couple days... thanks!

Some notes: got Win7x64 Ult., kb, mouse, screen, etc. Got two SATA 2TB HDs that I will move from current PC. SSD in the config below is for OS/applications, not general file storage. I run a lot of VM stuff for work, hence the high memory. I'm an occasional gamer but not hardcore. (Yes, I know these 2xGPUs are overkill.) Config built with pcpartpicker.com.

Thanks 13thmonkey!

The Kepler card is a great idea, I can hold out a couple weeks. I just hope they have good availability on release... hearing a lot about the TSMC work stoppage.

So I'm clear, can you expand on the memory comment? My knowledge on this is pretty limited... thanks!

My top-end system is very similar to that with the i7-3930Kand the SLi GTX580's. Power wise it idles around 300W and loads up to 600W. Ironically, I regularly leave that system sitting and use a couple of other systems which are a whole lot lighter on my electric bill but are still blindingly quick and can run every game going.

The memory you've got is very fast, check the SB-E reviews about how much memory speeds affects performance, I think its not much. and with there being perfectly acceptable $99 16GB kits you've got a $300 saving (150 from each kit), from a performance point of view you could do something with this, though I'm struggling to figure out what, raid0 SSD's? buy up a level if kepler is released.

If you dropped down to SB/IVB i'd think you could buy two boxes (can you cluster them?) which would work if you only wanted to work with them as a light server box

GAH! Waiting is not my strong point :)

Current reports are that Ivy Bridge will hit in June, which is pretty far out when you have money burning a hole in your pocket. :)

I need to pump my brakes and think things through a bit more. Thanks!
