I started another thread on here the other day concerning a cpu cooler for my PhenomII X4. Of course the overwhelming favorite was the Coolermaster Hyper 212 plus & Evo. Unfortunately I don think either will fit. The shorter of the 2 is the Hyper 212 plus, at 158.5mm tall. I measured from a bare spot on my motherboard to the inside of the lip where side attaches, and I have 167mm. That gives me 8.5mm to spare, but, there is the thickness of the socket/cpu to consider. I cant measure that unless I remove my heatsink/fan unit, so I wondered if anyone out there has a socket am3 board and cpu laying aroundand can tell me how much that adss to the MB thickness.
I suspect it will be 5-6mm, and thats cutting it too close to the side for me. I have been looking at other coolers as a back up plan, and have these so far. I'd appreciate advise on if any of them are decent. I do plan to overclock..thats the point of a Black Edition after all:

Also, how do these compare to the watercooling kits like the Antec Kuhler H2o 620: http://www.amazon.com/Antec-K%C3%BChler-H2O-620-Cooling...
or the Corsair H60 or H70:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Open for any other suggestions..btw my case is a Coolermaster Elite 335, here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

well if you really want to overclock I would suggest the Corsair H60. I have a machine with the 955BE and had the Hyper 212 on it until I moved it to another case that would not accomidate it. I went with one of the smaller coolers and while it is great at stock speeds it is not so great with the overclock. I knocked mine back to stock speed as I have a new gaming rig and this one is an office machine now. You might want to upgrade the PSU for overclocking just to be on the safe side,

I'm not looking to go crazy overclocking, and need a different cpu cooler whether I do or not. Since adding the GTX560Ti 448 core, my whole system is running hotter, and summer isnt here yet. A couple of the ones I linked to are nearly as big as the Hyper 212, but will fit my case, but are they any good?

for a mild overcloking the evo will do just add to it a good thermal paste, you could also send a mail to cooler master and ask them if that will fit

Evo is a bit taller than the 212 plus, and i'm pretty sure it wont fit..so they are both out..thats why I listed plan B options I'm having a hard time not picking alexy626 for best answer..lol

Your link just opened to the main page for heatsink/fan units..no specific one..I dont really have a budget limit for this, but dont want to get crazy. About $50 max without a good reason..also what about the self contained watercooling kits..any good?

that was to show you that they still have the evo,for water cooling could not suggest you one never tried it look around for some reviews and the place you got in your case to put it some have single fan others have dual fan one beside the other on the cooler

I've got room for one.right where my rear 120mm fan is mounted now, but would rather not spend that much unless its Waaaay better than an air solution. I'm limited to a cooler with a max height of 155mm.
Anyone know if this thing is any good? Coolermaster hyper N520 , It gets pretty good reviews.
