Broken USB ports

Two of my usb ports on my Acer laptop seems broken. I have only one left to use. Can this be repaired? If not what are my alternatives?
Thanks

  1. Hello frikkie12;

    It can be repaired.
    In some cases it might mean the motherboard needs replacing which might not be cost effective.

    You might be able to use a powered USB hub, depending on what you need extra USB ports and what items you need to run on USB.
  2. depends why theyve broken - if theyve burnt out because youre using high power portable hdds / charging your iphone constantly - you may have burnt out the controller - then its screwed.

    If youve physically damaged the port, it might just need a quick solder.
  3. What model of laptop and what USB port (2.0, 3.0)?

    i wouldnt recomend soldering a new usb port on simply.

    dont do this unless you can afford a new one as it will void any warrenty/guarantee and if you slip it could cause you to have to buy a new one anyway

    best thing to do is to look for a computer shop near you. a lot just want the buissness so will have a quick look for you if you ask
  5. Hi :)

    My lappy repair company does this...

    We charge £100 in labour to replace a pair....

    Get a USB HUB :) MUCH cheaper...

    All the best Brett :)
