i'm building a new system (phenom II x4 955, 8gig, 500w) and i already have 3 nice identical vga lcd monitors that i'd like to use in an eyefinity setup. I know I will have to use a display port to vga active adapter and dvi/vga adapters.

so far the only card i've been able to find to do this is the 6870 with 2 mini display ports and 1 dvi. but then i'd need 2 active adapters which arent cheap...

the 6850s and others with 1 display port and 2 dvi wont work since only 1 dvi is dual link and vga adapters only work on dual link ports.

are there any other amd cards or setups under $200 that will get this working?

please help

thanks!

I've just set up my three-VGA-monitor eyefinity, running from an XFX 5750 1GB (dual-slot version). Card's cheap and does for most games at average settings.

Currently:
DVI->VGA adapter->VGA monitor
DVI->VGA adapter->VGA monitor
DP->VGA adapter->VGA monitor

The DP->VGA adapter only set me back £15 and is available in plenty of places (got mine on Amazon):

It's not top-of-the-line card wise, but does the job nicely on a budget.

(Edit: Conveniently, I am also currently running an X4 9550 with 8GB RAM and a 500W PSU)
