Hi, I know it's old but can you tell me what the fastest CPU for my motherboard (MS 6786 Micro Star.) would be? I just want to speed it up to the max for little money. I've put 2 Gig of DDR Ram in. The present CPU is A's above.

If you have a 3000+ already that's about as good as you can do. The fastest chip made for socket A was the 3200+ and the performance difference (if you could even find one now) would be minimal. You have a dinosaur there.

The fastest CPU you can install (assuming the BIOS supports it) is the Athlon XP 3200+. To make it a little confusing there were two different versions. One was 2.2GHz and another was 2.33GHZ.

If you want to waste money on it then you can buy the 2.2GHz version for $69 excluding tax and shipping costs. I found that simply using Google in less than 10 seconds.
