Okay, so I've asked a lot and have come to three final options on which GPU is best for me.
CURRENT SPECS:
Phenom ii x4 2.6ghz
8gb RAM
Intergrated GPU
Diablotek PHD450 450watt
OPTION 1:
buy a new PSU and get the EVGA GTX 460

OPTION 2:
buy a new mobo and get the RADEON HD 6770 HIS IceQ X

OPTION 3:
get the RADEON HD 6850 ASUS

OPTION 4:
get the RADEON HD 6790 HIS IceQ x a new mobo and a new PSU
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the mobo i am getting with option 2, 3, and 4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131619
the PSU i am getting with 4 and 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703025

Any thoughts?

Solution

that system will be very balanced once you get everything into place; ill stick by option 4 as my recommendation for you.

ehh, it fits my budget yes, but just barely. I need a new mobo beacuse even though mine is DDR3 and AM3 it only has a pcie 1.0 slot, not a 2.0. i find 2.1 GPU's to be buggy in a 1.0 slot.

i dunno if buggy is the word, you might get a tiny amount of performance reduction, but the slots/cards should be backwards compatible. with that said, a new mobo can never hurt, especially if you want to overclock your cpu

not a problem; was glad to help. Happy gaming
one more thing; you have 8gb of ram, and that new mobo you want is 2 slots. you have 4 sticks? if you have 4 you will be limited to 4gb ram, but that should still be plenty for you to game with and not have any issues. They make 8gb kits on 2 sticks for your next upgrade if thats somethign you want to stick to
