Hello,

Been without the net for a while and after some serious thinking and research I figured that crossfiring 2 sapphire 7870 seems like the best option at the moment.

Thinking about coupling this cpu

with this mb

and then the 2 sapphire 7870s.

I understand that it is best to go with the 2500k but im not getting a lot of hours at work and I want to build this joint before my Bday. I guess that my questions are: Will that mb be able to handle crossfire? and Will the cpu allow me to get the most of out the gpus?

Lastly, the psu. I have a seasonic m12II but im guessing that I will need something stronger to crossfire the gpus? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I have this seasonic

I was aiming to get better performance with two midcards than with a single high end card but I guess that you are right...With 2 mid range cards I will be getting slightly better performance than with a single high end card but I will also be spending more than I would with a single card. That being the case I would much rather go with nvidia than with radeon.

Any idea of how the 7950 does against the asus 580?

Oh yeah..... that M12II 620 is a great PSU and will handle any single GPU and still allow all the Core i5-2500K OC'ing you want.

With the MB/CPU/PSU on hand and paid for - a new GPU is your best value option for really excellent 1920x1080 gaming.

I see your point. I haven´t been able to do much research lately because I had to move early last week and I have been without net since then. Just got my net back a few hours ago. That 7950 does seem worth looking into. It seems to be the best choice atm, so i´ll probably go with it.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction!

It will handle crossfireX PCIe slots said: 3(x16 x16 x4)
For a PSU you will need at least 800 watts power.

7870 is definitely close in performance and will cost about $100 less. The extra money can go to the pocket or a beef up other parts of the PC. If you're going to compare the two, then you should compare them with similar amounts of RAM, look at the stats for the GTX580 3MB version in the link that I provided.

Failing to find the performance of the 580 with 3gb but Im guessing that it will be equal or higher than that of the 7950 since the 1.5gb is only 3 points behind it.

The sapphire 7950 looks good enough and it is somewhat cheaper than the 3gb 580s.

Anyways, think that I will go with radeon this time.

Thanks for the help EVERYBODY!
