No, the OEM version of Microsoft Windows 7 and all Microsoft windows operating systems WILL NOT have word, powerpoint, excel, etc. installed. You need to buy Microsoft Office for those programs (normally around $100)

If you don't have that much money to spend, then you can use a free open source software such as Libreoffice or OpenOffice:
LibreOffice:

OpenOffice:

Both are compatible with word, they save files as .doc i believe (don't know if they changed to .docx)

Or you can use office starter which is free but has ads and some limited functionality. If you need to send back and forth files with others, get office starter, it's just easier not to deal with compatibility issues.

Otherwise if you are doing something yourself use openoffice, it works fine.

I've had to deal with enough people sending me stuff in open office to say it's not worth the hassle. Text generally carries over well if you save it as a .doc, but embedded pictures, tables, equations, etc. always gets screwed up. Same thing with XLS and PPT, you can save it as an office file, (or open .ord files in office) but it never works quite right.

win7 has most drivers preloaded, so you won't have to worry about anything but newer stuff. For newer items just go to the manufacturer's website, and under support look for your product and select win7 64bit. It isnt too hard for 99% of the stuff out there.
