What is Cache memory?

Hi guys:


I have 16 gb of rams, and while looking at the resource monitor, I see the following:


total memory : 16346
cache memory: 7564
available : 12930
free:5648

what is this cahce memory that's taking so much space? the green bar above shows only 3.34 gb is in use, but i only have 5648mb avaliable?

cache memory is used as a swap file on devices like hard drives and os. in the newer version of windows it keeps windows from hitting your hard drive over and over for the next lines of code.

is the cache memory in my comp being over used tho?
